Verizon buy Terremark

Yesterday the news of this gigantic acquisition, worth 1.4 billion dollars ($19 per share)

As can be seen from this excerpt from google finance, the intention to acquire at a value of $19 has increased its value by 30%.

Below is the Verizon news: http://newscenter.verizon.com/press-releases/verizon/2011/verizon-to-acquire-terremark.html

And that of Terremark: http://www.terremark.com/investor-relations.aspx

This is configured in the now consolidated mega acquisitions in the cloud computing field that we notice more and more frequent from 2008 onwards. As it happened before (and still, even if the areas now overlap) for virtualization.

Specifically, Verizon, a multinational company with a presence in 142 countries with 96% of customers in the Fortune 1000, with a portfolio of products and solutions, ranging from IT Service, Security Services, Communication Services, Networking Services, Mobility Services, with the acquisition will be able to manage the 360° bit ‘Everything as-a-Service’, as Lowell McAdam, President and Chief Operating Officer of Verizon says.

“Our collective vision will foster innovation, enhance business processes and dynamically deliver business intelligence and collaboration services to anyone, anywhere and on any device.”

Verizon plans to operate the new unit as a wholly owned subsidiary while retaining the Terremark name and retaining the current Terremark management team.

Terremark is widely recognized as an IaaS leader, operating in 13 datacenters in the U.S., Europe and Latin America. Cloud Computing, colocation, hosting plan. A VMware partner, it has adopted vCloud Express and Datacenter solutions from the beginning.

D.Manuel Medina, President & CEO of Terremark :

“This agreement represents an exciting opportunity to accelerate our strategy and serve our enterprise and government customers with even greater innovation on a global scale with Verizon’s resources and extensive reach.”

Cloud Computing is thus confirmed as the engine of investments by ICT corporations.
